Franklin & Marshall College,
with one of the best
known science departments in the country, renovated their 91,000 sq. ft.
Pfeiffer Science Building in order to improve its outdated and
ineffective mechanical systems.
|
|
Consolidated
Engineers designed the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, lighting and
data communications systems for the building. The existing HVAC system
was inadequate. The building was hot, humid and uncomfortable. It also
did not meet present-day code requirements for lab ventilation.
State-of-the-art lab VAV (variable air volume) controls were installed
on the 87 fume hoods in the building. These controls ensure a safe 100
feet per minute capture velocity at the hood opening at all times
without interfering with the space temperature and humidity. |
|
Consolidated designed
a building-wide data distribution system which ties the computers in
each classroom to a local network. All wiring was run on a cable tray
system for convenience and ease in upgrading the system. |
