PROJECT SUMMARY

Square Footage: 50,000 sf
Total M/E Construction Cost: $5,900,000
Architects: AEM Architects
Reading, PA
Special Features:
HVAC system designed to accommodate 24-hour a day laboratory  operation.
Hydrogen detection system.
In-floor acid waste system.
In-floor data and power system.

Yuasa-Exide built a new 50,000 square foot addition and connected it to their existing office building.  The new addition contains a high-bay testing laboratory on the first floor and office space on the second and third floors.

Consolidated Engineers provided the design of the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, and data cabling systems.

The testing laboratory required special features. The laboratory is used 24 hours a day to test batteries. This required a control system that could isolate that part of the building and allow the first floor to run separately from the rest of the facility. The laboratory also required special safety features such as a hydrogen detection system and extensive acid waste system which allows any acid spills to run into the floor drains and which are connected to a special holding tank.

The offices featured an open floor plan with modular furniture units which required in-floor electric and data cabling.
